Over a thousand students attended the speech of Harvard’s President Print
Prof. Drew Gilpin Faust - President of Harvard University had a meeting with Prof. Huynh Thanh Dat - President of VNUHCM during the visit to VNUHCM- University of Social Sciences and Humanities on March 23rd.

Introducing about VNUHCM as a high quality center of higher education, postgraduate and scientific research - technology , Prof. Huynh Thanh Dat wishes VNUHCM and Harvard University will strengthen cooperation, promote exchange in experience, in research as well as various fields for the process of intensive educational integration between the two universities.

Sharing the reasons for choosing VNUHCM as the starting point for her visit to Viet Nam, the President of the world's most prestigious university, said: " For more than three decades before I became president of Harvard, I worked as a scholar and teacher of history.  For that reason it gives me special pleasure to be here at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, one of Vietnam’s preeminent centers for historical study. "

Tet holiday: VNUHCM-University of Technology gave away 113 tickets to students Print
113 Lunar New Year tickets with a total value of 50 million VND were given to students of VNUHCM-University of Technology (VNUHCM-UT) on the Students Tet Festival 2017 occurred in the afternoon of December 31st. This was the activity included in the program called “Giving train tickets – Connecting hometown” organized by VNUHCM-UT every year.

The Students Tet Festival 2017 also had various and attractive activities such as Sticky Rice Cake cooking contest, Folk games, Fashion show, Students’ Talent Festival, Camp fire, Culinary of three regions… The festival had the participation of many singers such as Hai Yen Idol, the Blue Notes band, Mat Nai group…

Lam Van Phuoc (Junior student of the Faculty of Building Technology) shared: ”I’m very surprised when this festival was held. All day the atmosphere was exciting, with a lot of useful and funny activities… This helps students who live far from home like me ease the homesick.”

It was also reported that in the afternoon of December 30th, VNUHCM-UT celebrated the ceremony of the Spring Volunteer campaign in 2017 with the participation of 350 volunteers.

VNUHCM Honored 116 Students With 5 Merits Print
In the morning of December 24th, at the Information Technology Park of VNU-HCM, the VNU -HCM Board Committee of Youth Union held the Honoring ceremony of VNU-HCM Student with 5 Good (SV5T) 2016.
   Assoc. Prof. Dr. Huynh Thanh Dat – Vice President of VNUHCM, Dr. Nguyen Duc Nghia - Vice President of VNUHCM and Mr. Pham Kieu Hung - Head of HCMC Youth Union of School, Vice Chairman of Vietnamese Students’ Association in HCMC  attended the ceremony.
According to Dr. Huynh Thanh Dat, after 6 years of operation (2010-2016), VNUHCM Students with 5 Merits movement has honored 997 students. After graduation,those students continued to promote the role and capacity of their work in the new environment, the prestige and quality of VNUHCM Students with 5 Merits title.

“I want each of a Student with 5 Merits become an ambassador and it will spread the message to society that the VNUHCM students not only have specialist knowledge but also be dynamic, innovative, willing to integrate into society and international "- Dr. Huynh Thanh Dat said.

The ceremony honored 116 SV5T at VNU-HCM level, which consisted of 13 students were honored SV5T in 3 years continuously.

In 2016, VNU has 62 students and 4 Students with 5 Merits groups were awarded at the city level.

Author Nguyen Nhat Anh joined the Literary dialogue Vietnam-Thailand Print

Writer Nguyen Nhat Anh and Assoc.Prof, Dr. Montira Rato from Faculty of Literature and Arts of Chulalongkom University (Thailand) had attended a conversation namely Literary dialogue Vietnam - Thailand in the morning of December 12, at VNUHCM-University of Social Sciences and Humanities, attracting nearly 500 students attended.

Assoc.Prof, Dr. Montira Rato said that during translating from Vietnamese to Thai for the work Ticket to childhood by Nguyen Nhat Anh, she had better known the culture of Vietnam where the people remain their pride in their ancestor's victory with many interesting things. Besides studying, she also expressed her interest in teaching Vietnamese literature at Chulalongkorn University.

The 11th award ceremony for Korean literature review Print

On the morning of 26/11 , at the HCMC General Science Library, Faculty of Korean studies and Faculty of Literature & Language, VNUHCM-University of Social Sciences and Humanities (VNUHCM-USSH) in association with Institute for South Korea Literature Translation co-organized an award ceremony for the contest "The 11th Korean literature critics ".

Attending the ceremony were Mr. Phan Thanh Dinh - Vice-Rector of VNUHCM-USSH, Ms. Kwag Hyun Ju - Director of Planning and Management, Institute for South Korea Literature Translation, writer Hwang Sun-mi, author of "A Hen Into the Wild", which was chosen as the theme of the competition this year and nearly 100 students from universities in Hanoi, Danang and Ho Chi Minh City.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Phan Thanh Dinh appreciated the role of this competition in encouraging Vietnamese students to learn the foreign literary works, especially South Korea, contributing to harness the cooperative relations between the two countries.
According to Dr. Tran Thi Phuong Phuong - Head of the contest referee board, the organizers received 142 entries from 12 universities and 3 schools from 7 local provinces and cities : Hanoi, Nghe An, Hue, Da Nang, Dalat, Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai.
"We had difficulties in nominating the awardee as the quality of entries this year article are quite good. They expressed the deeply felt and sophistication of the work, through their purest implicity. Many articles unleashed literary criticism quite well "- Dr. Tran Thi Phuong Phuong said.
Ban contest awarded 19 outstanding entries, including 2 first prize for two students from HCMC and Hanoi.
Dam Truc Quynh, senior students from Faculty of Korean Studies, VNUHCM-USSH- First Prize awardee- shared her feeling: "With A Hen Into the Wild, I realize the profound lessons about motherhood, friendship, as well as the value of freedom. I think that the work is not only for children but also adults can read and meditate on the profound human values which authors to recommend ".
A Hen Into the Wild is one of the most successful works of the writer Hwang Sun-mi. This story has been translated into 9 languages and was adapted into cartoon Leafie, A Hen Into the Wild in 2011, resonates at many international film festivals.
The work revolves around the story of Palm Pre, the only self-entitled chicken in the flock who did not trough her neck into the feeder in mealtimes but stare through the grating to see Mimosa trees in the garden. Not accepting the life in a cage just to eat bran and lay eggs, she dreamed of traveling here and there, hatching their offspring then  wander around like Garden Chicken - a member of the family in garden.
Conveying the message about the desire of freedom, living true to oneself, daring challenge and doing what they want, the story of Palm Pre not only appeal to children, but also attract adults, who have long forgotten the true dare to live their dream.

The Center for Dormitory Management – VNU-HCM Given Out Free 5,000 Helmets for Resident Students Print

          In order to propagandize and improve together with mobilize resident students to participate in and obey the traffic regulations, especially encourage them to wear helmet when riding motorbikes, on November 11th, 2008, the Center for Dormitory Management of VNU-HCM coordinated the student union of University of Natural Sciences, the Youth Cultural House and the managing board of website: bancunglop.vn to carry out the giving of free 5,000 helmet for students residence at the dormitory of VNU-HCM.
