On January 16th 2017, at VNUHCM- Information Technology Park, Viet Nam National University Ho Chi Minh City (VNUHCM) held the Announcement Ceremony for the President of VNUHCM.
On behalf of the Government, Mr. Vu Duc Dam, Deputy Prime Minister awarded the decision on appointment of Prof. Huynh Thanh Dat as the President of VNUHCM.
Prof. Huynh Thanh Dat was the former Vice President of VNUHCM.
At the ceremony, when reviewing on the achievements of VNUHCM in the past, Prof. Huynh Thanh Dat stated: “Over twenty years of establishment and development, Viet Nam National University Ho Chi Minh City has gradually become a top-tier multidisciplinary training, researching and technology transfer center in Viet Nam. Within the country, VNUHCM is leading in terms of  the number of accredited training programs by international and regional standards; in the quality and quantity of international publications; in joint training programs and international cooperation. Furthermore, VNUHCM is also the leading force in constructing and developing a thriving, modernized and environmental-friendly university urban area at the Northeastern gateway of Ho Chi Minh City.”
In his speech, Prof. Huynh Thanh Dat expressed his sentiments and honor when being trusted and assigned by the elite leaders of the Communist Party and Government to be leader of VNUHCM. He also expressed his trust in further advancement of the VNUHCM system:    
“VNUHCM will continue its mandate of pioneering in the radical and comprehensive reform of education and training initiated and implemented by the Communist Party of Viet Nam, and will shape itself as a highly-autonomous and highly-accountable university model. All teachers and students of VNUHCM vow to contribute all their skills and intelligence, their passion for science, their desire for discovery and renovation to the success of our country in order to promote the Vietnamese intellectuals and values, to be well- matched with other countries in the region as well as all over the world.”
