Living in VNUHCM dormitories and being part of our community enriches students’ life. In recognition of this importance, VNUHCM tries to provide accommodation for the whole student population, particularly for first year students. VNUHCM dormitory and guesthouse system can provide accommodation for about 60,000 local and international students and professors.
Short-term accommodation requests at VNUHCM dormitories, especially for students from remote areas can be well arranged prior to their arrival. Living in VNUHCM dormitories, students also benefit from various types of services such as food courts, cafeterias, laundry centers, medical centers, post offices, computer laboratories, gym centers and movie theaters. Each dormitory has a Board of Counsellors which is responsible for looking after the welfare of students through assistance and guidance.
The dormitory is located on total area of 50 ha with 43 well-equipped buildings (from 5 to 12 floors). It will be able to serve more than 40.000 students with the main function and responsibility of providing residential services and healthcare as well as enhancing social activities for HCM National University students.
“The dormitory is not only a residence but also a self disciplined place for students”. Students will be able to develop and improve their dynamic and creativity here by a wide range of different activities like joining clubs, taking part into environmental, cultural, and sporty activities or social supporting services. The center will be continuously developing and diversifying more entertainment activities to meet student expectations. In the future, the dorm towards the type of high quality services to improve living standards.
Within VNUHCM, student life is enriched with varied sport activities that meet almost all talents and interests of the student population. VNUHCM has a wide range of extra-curricular activities that are consistent with its educational objectives. Sport events offer one avenue of broadening students’ experience at the university and also allow them to meet different individuals’ expectations. Every day, there are numerous sports activities in which football is particularly popular. Sports facilities include courts for basketball, volleyball, badminton, tennis, activity rooms, athletics tracks and thousands of square metres of playing fields which can be used for football, throwing weights and many other activities.
There are also chess and Chinese checker clubs. Most sport facilities at VNUHCM are open to students and staff; prior booking is required which can be done at the campus where the facilities are located.
The vibrant social and cultural scene at the university complements the atmosphere of serious study in the lecture halls. VNUHCM students can also become involved in community service activities such as eliminating illiteracy among rural people, anti-drug programs, Green Sunday for Ho Chi Minh City, Student Music Festivals and other social activities.
STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES
Located in and operated by each member university, the bookshops sell a variety of goods ranging from textbooks and language books to clothing, gifts, music CDs, souvenirs, and confectioneries and also offer photocopy services. The bookshops are open every day from 7:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m
There are six canteens in the six campuses and a student service center. They offer a wide range of Vietnamese traditional food at reasonable prices. They are open from 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. A limited schedule of operation is in effect during semester breaks. New students and staff members will find it worthwhile to explore all of the food.
VNUHCM health services provide both students and staff with medical and surgical care as well as health education.
To promote student welfare, the VNUHCM student Union runs a range of activities from fund-raising activities to volunteer projects, such as helping handicapped people and food victims in the central region. It publishes its own monthly student newspaper and the Bulletin News of VNUHCM. The Union aims to safeguard students’ interests and to uphold and respect the dignity and equality of all students. It also manages the employment services which disseminate information about seasonal and part-time jobs. On-campus job-seeking programs are organized on all campuses, and there is a comprehensive network between employers and all member universities.
