External Assessment at University of Social Sciences & Humanities


On December 29th, and 30th, 2008, Center for Educational Testing & Quality Assessment had carried out the external assessment used for the quality assessment for higher education in University of Social Sciences & Humanities in according with the plan for Quality Assurance in Vietnam National University – HCMC in the phase of 2007-2010 which had been approved by the President of Vietnam National University – HCMC. This is the first quality assessment delegation within the whole country which is carried out in pursuant to the new issued Criteria in pursuant to the Decision 65/2007 of the Ministry of Education and Training, this is also the first external assessment held at VNU-HCM.


The external assessment delegation at University of Social Sciences & Humanities was formed in following the Decision No. 1223/QĐ-DDHQG-KT&DDQ, dated October 28th, 2008 by the President of Vietnam National University – Ho Chi Minh City. The delegation consists of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Phuong Nga – Director of Center for Quality Assurance & Education Research & Development, VNU-HN (leader); M.A. Mai Thi Quynh Lan – Center for Quality Assurance & Education Research & Development (secretary); M.A. Nguyen Vinh Anh – Director of Department for Academic Affairs of Can Tho University (member of the delegation); Dr. Nguyen Tien Dung – Director of Department for Administration (member of the delegation) and M.A. Nguyen Duc Chinh – Vice-Director of Department for Planning & Finance of VNU-HCM (member of the delegation).


Before carrying out the external assessment at the university, the delegation had carried out the overall research the self-assessment report which is provided by the university and collated it with the Criteria on Higher Education Quality Assessment issued by the Ministry of Education & Training in order to initially identify the level of satisfaction on the requirements on quality of the university itself. Within two days of official assessment, the delegation had examined the documentations, proof dossiers, carried out interviews on the university’s leaders, Department and Faculty’s leaders, the university’s centers, teaching staffs, students, employers, the delegation had also visited some classes, equipments, the infrastructure of the university such as the library, journalism practice room, GIS practice room, the environmental geography lab, data referencing room, multimedia room, foreign language room,….


Throughout the assessment at University of Social Sciences & Humanities, the external assessment delegation had pointed out the strengths to be promoted, some shortcomings, some inadequacies to be improved, accordingly, the delegation would give out recommendations in order for the university to improve and promote its activities in order to meet social needs.


The official draft report would be sent to the university on January 12th, 2009 for feedback before submitted to the Board on Quality Assessment for consideration to propose to the President of VNU-HCM for approval of the result which is anticipated to be on the upcoming first Quarter of 2009.
