Moncton University (Canada) paid a visit and worked with VNU-HCM

On June 23, 2009, the delegation of Moncton University, Canada leaded by Prof. Yvon Fontaine, Rector of Moncton University and Chairman of AUF (Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie) paid a working visit to VNU-HCM.


They were welcomed by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phan Thanh Binh, President of VNU-HCM, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vu Dinh Thanh, Rector of University of Technology, member of the Board of AUF, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Thi Hong, Director of Department of International Relations, VNU-HCM.
At the meeting, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phan Thanh Binh and Prof. Yvon Fontaine unreservedly disscussed some fields that two universities interested in and are capable to co-operate in the future, such as strengthening exchange of teaching staff, students, scientific researches; creating condition to give members of VNU-HCM to build cooperative programs with universities of Canada in general and with Moncton University in particular. The two sides also discussed the cooperation between VNU-HCM with AUF.
Since 1994, University of Technology and University of Sciences have already had the effective cooperation with AUF, especially in training engineers for Falculty of Civil Engineering, Electrical – Electronic Engineering, Chemistry and Information Technology. In 1998, University of Social Sciences and Humanities also jointed in with a major of Geography by French. Besides, AUF also awarded many short- term, long-term scholarships for lecturers, researchers and students in 3 members of VNU-HCM.
Speaking at the meeting, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phan Thanh Binh expressed the hope that Prof. Yvon, on the position of Chairman of AUF will support, promote further the multilateral relationship between VNU-HCM and AUF.
On behaf of Moncton University delegation, Prof. Yvon Fontaine gave his thank to VNU-HCM for the warm welcome and had an honor of inviting VNU-HCM to visit Moncton University in near future.
Moncton University is the largest French language university outside Quecbec, Canada. Because of having the long-term development since 1984, it offers an abundant program including more than 160 academic programs for bachelor degrees of 50 majors and 40 for master, 4 for doctorate degrees. Moncton University is a large research center: setting up 35 research projects in many fields with member research institues. It is considered as a breeding ground for inventions, scientific initiative. Located in center of Acadie area, it has 3 campuses in Nouveau Brunswick province, the only one where English and French are entirely used in Canada. Moncton campus which located in eastern of the province is the main place receiving students of the university. One of Moncton University’s strong points is high qualification of lecturers.
