Vietnamese Prime Minister visited VNUHCM on the 34th anniversary of Vietnamese Teachers’ Day

On the occasion of the 34th anniversary of Vietnamese Teachers’ Day, Prime Minister (PM) Nguyen Xuan Phuc visited and worked with the Vietnam National University – Ho Chi Minh City (VNUHCM) on November 20.

The ceremony was also attended by Mr. Phan Thanh Binh, Chairman of National Assembly Committee on Culture, Education, Adolescents and Children, President of VNUHCM. From the local government were Mr. Mai Tien Dung, Minister, Chairman of the Office of the Government; Mr. Phung Xuan Nha, Minister of Education and Training; Mr. Tran Hong Quan, Chairman of the Association of Colleges and Universities; Mr. Tran Hong Ha,  Minister of Natural Resources and Environment; and other officials from ministries and local authorities.

Expressing his affection while visiting VNUHCM on the occasion of Vietnamese Teachers’ Day, PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc commented that this day is not only a ceremonial day of the educators and teachers, but also a day of cultvation tradition which has long existed within our nation history.

Praising the achievements that VNUHCM harvested for 20 years, PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc stated: “I am calling for all the educators, all scientists and our students, with our honor and responsibility for VNUHCM, for our nation’s development and integration, to contribute all your talent and wisdom, your affection for science to become the flagship in our modernization and industrialization process.”

PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc also gifted 100 books “Welcoming the Fourth generations”, penned by ex-PM Vo Van Kiet to the Presidential Board of VNUHCM, who later received flowers and compliments from Minister Phung Xuan Nha.

Responding to these compliments, Vice Prsident of VNUHCM, Prof. Huynh Thanh Dat express his gratitude to the PM along with all the officials and staff of VNUHCM. “Along these years, both Vietnam National Universities have gradually become top-tier center for scientific research and technology transfer in Vietnam. VNUHCM has been the leading institution in the number of regionally accredited training programs, in the number and qulaity of international scientific publications, and the number of joint training programs. VNUHCM is also the driving force in establishing a university urban area, which offers smart, modern and environmental-friendly facilities for the development of Ho Chi Minh city and the Southern Key Economic Zone.”

On this occasion, PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc presented the First-class Labour Medal to Professor Phan Thi Tuoi, former Rector of  VNUHCM-University of Technology and Professor Duong Ai Phuong, former Rector of  VNUHCM-University of Science.

Following the ceremony, PM had a working session with VNUHCM leaders to provide solutions and opportunities for further development.
