On October 09, 2008, Vietnam
National University – Ho Chi Minh City (VNU-HCM)
held a seminar named “University Admission in the United
States” talked by Prof. David Berman from Pittsburgh University.
officials of VNU-HCM attended in the seminar, including Dr. Nguyen Duc Nghia –
Vice President of VNU-HCM, leadership of member universities, representatives
of faculty and research centers, representatives of Departments as well as
visitors from Vietnam Fulbright Program, University
of Technical Education – Ho Chi Minh City, University
of Pedagogy – HCMC, Da Lat University,
Hong Bang University…
Through the seminar,
Prof. David Berman gave explanations about the admission, recruitment of US
Universities in general, as well as some experiences in admission of Pittsburgh University. Reports of Dr. Vu Thi Phuong
Anh – Director of the Center for Education Testing & Quality Assessment and
Dr. Tran Xuan Thao, Director of Vietnam Fulbright Program gave some useful
information about admission problems in Vietnam as well as this problem all
over the world.
After analyzing the
reports, participants took part in discussion many problems involving in
university admission and university entrance nowadays in Vietnam.
In the closing
remarks, Dr. Nguyen Duc Nghia summarized the main points of discussion. This
seminar is the first step for the seminar “Reformation in University Admission
and Establishment of Experiment Question Bank” in the early December.
