VNUHCM listed among top 701-750 in QS World University Rankings 2019 (Ho Chi Minh City, June 6th, 2018)

On June 6th, 2018, Education foundation Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), the United Kingdom, has announced The QS World University Rankings 2019 (QS World) for the top 1.011 universities in the world. For the first time, Viet Nam has two universities appearing in this ranking in which Viet Nam National University Ho Chi Minh City (VNUHCM) made it into the 701-750 group while Viet Nam National University Ha Noi (VNUHN) moved into the 801-1000 band.


With the above results, VNUHCM is ranked at the top 69% of the best universities in QS World Rankings 2019 and belongs to the group of 4% of the world’s leading universities in total of 23.000 universities.


QS World evaluates and ranks universities based on six criteria, including: Academic reputation (40%), Employer reputation (10%), Faculty/Student ratio (20%), Citations per faculty (20%), International faculty ratio (5%), and International student proportion (5%). This year, VNUHCM has two criteria in the top 500, namely Faculty/ Student ratio (ranked 375) and Academic reputation (ranked 497).


To have an objective database for evaluation, QS World has analyzed over 97 million citations from 14 million research papers in Scopus system, received feedback from 1.2 million academics and 200.000 employers on a global scale to define these best universities in terms of training, research and community service. Based on methodology foundation, scientifically designed scale and trustworthy data source, 1.011 universities and institutes from 85 countries have been named in QS World University Rankings 2019, of which 60 universities are categorized in rankings for their first time.


QS World University Rankings, founded in 2004, is a prestigious ranking agency and attracts attention from universities and governments of many countries. With a comprehensive assessment of the university including training, scientific research, community service, QS rankings have been attracting the attention of many universities around the world aiming to enhance credibility and to be the basis for improvement of overall quality. Since its first appearance in QS Regional University Rankings – Asia (QS Asia) in 2004, VNUHCM moved up from top 250 to 142th place in 2018. This year marked the breakthrough of VNUHCM when it first appeared in QS World University Rankings 2019 and was included in the 701-750 group. This result confirms the right policy of VNUHCM when actively participating in rankings from previous years based on a solid quality assurance system. Comparative results of ranking index with regional and universities help VNUHCM to determine its strengths and weaknesses; then, having efficient improvements to enhance the quality in a stable and sustainable manner.
