VNUHCM units to prevent and stop Ransomware WannaCry malicious code

On May 17th, VNUHCM sent a request to its member and affiliated units to secure and prevent from being attacked by WannaCry Ransomware.

WannaCry Ransomware is a very dangerous malicious code that can steal information and encrypt an entire system server, it has caused a strong quake on global scale in recent days. In order to prevent the attack of this malicious code in Viet Nam, on May 13th, 2017 Vietnam Computer Emergency Response Team sent a warning letter to the units specialized in information technology (IT), information security of the central units, ministries, departments, Departments of Information and Communication and network members as well as other key units.

VNUHCM requires its member and affiliate units to urgently inspect and monitor the IT system regularly to detect the abnormalities in the system to repair; to update “patches” by using computer operating system updates software for both servers and workstations; to backup important data in order to recover promptly when data is lost in parallel with the implementation of technical measures to ensure information safety; In case of trouble, it is necessary to isolate the detected machine and area, and at the same time inform the leader of the unit, IT department and related departments for coordinated handling and repairing; to require officers to be cautious when receiving emails with attachments and strange links on social networks; to be careful when opening attachments, do not open “.hta” paths or unclear structured paths, shortened paths.

In addition, VNUHCM requires the units to follow the instructions of the Vietnam Computer Emergency Response Team and the Information Security Department of the Ministry of Information and Communication to prevent the attacks from WannaCry Ransomware.
