Four Universities Achieved Education Quality Assessment Standards

On May 29th, at VNUHCM Administration Building, VNUHCM coordinated with Hanoi VNU Center for Education Accreditation (VNU-CEA) to organize the Decision Announcement and Education Quality Assessment Standard Certificate Handling Ceremony to VNUHCM-University of Social Sciences and Humanities (VNUHCM-USSH), VNUHCM-University of Science (VNUHCM-US), VNUHCM-University of Economics and Law (VNUHCM-UEL) and VNUHCM-University of Information Technology (VNUHCM-UIT).

VNUHCM Board of Regents, Prof. Nguyen Quy Thanh – Director of VNU-CEA and boards of rectors, lecturers, and students from member universities of VNUHCM attended the ceremony.  Speaking at the ceremony, Prof. Nguyen Hoi Nghia – Vice President of VNUHCM informed that VNUHCM actually had 44 externally evaluated programs, 30 programs achieving AUN-QA standard (50% of nationwide programs achieving AUN-QA standard), 7 high quality Vietnam-France programs achieving CTI standard and 2 programs achieving ABET standard from the US.

Mr. Nghia emphasized: “Developing the quality assurance system has been considered important by VNUHCM from the early days of establishment. Quality assessment plays a very important role, it helps the units to realize their own strengths and weaknesses in order to continue improving.”

Prof. Nguyen Quy Thanh informed that, VNUHCM-USSH and VNUHCM-US together with VNUHCM-IU who had obtained the certificate previously were the three units to achieve the highest results of all the universities of Vietnam accredited by the center.

Prof. Vo Van Sen – Rector of VNUHCM-USSH stated: “Assessment delegates have evaluated and given objective assessment result, showing strengths and weaknesses of the university so that we will have plans to improve the quality of education in the coming time.” Congratulating the four university members, Prof. Huynh Thanh Dat – President of VNUHCM supposed that it was an evidence of the rise of education quality of VNUHCM. Mr. Dat also committed to create all supporting conditions and connections for member universities for further education quality improvement.

Up to now, VNUHCM has had 5 university members participating in the assessment and achieving Quality Assessment Standard of educational institutions of MOET. Particularly, VNUHCM-University of Technology will be assessed by the ASEAN University Network (AUN) in September 2017. Currently, VNUHCM is leading in the number of programs achieving regional and international quality standard nationwide. Following the plan, by 2022, all VNUHCM units will be externally evaluated by AUN.
