Learning how to reduce stress

In the morning of March 20th at VNUHCM-University of Social Sciences and Humanities (VNUHCM),  Dr. Nguyen Hoang Khac Hieu – lecturer of the Faculty of Psychology and Education Sciences, Ho Chi Minh University of Pedagogy – had a talk with students about how to reduce stress.

Dr. Nguyen Hoang Khac Hieu assumed that the purpose of life is happiness. There are four sources of happiness which are health, work, family and mental. Those who know how to balance these 4 sources will be happy. The reason leading to mental distress is not being able to control emotions. It is easy to produce negative emotions then commit bad acts when personal needs exceed the limit allowed.

In order to reduce stress, according to the doctor, we need to change our awareness, thought and adjust our own behaviors. When we are in trouble, we need to consider reasons that cause trouble. Only the right reason can take us to appropriate solutions and acts.

Illustrating for problems’ solution, the doctor strongly pressed the pencil on the paper so that it was broken. However, it was still useful when re-sharpened. Similarly setting targets which go beyond our capabilities will cause disappointment, depression. At that moment, re-set the original target is advised.

The lecturer also show those sharing that they did not have interest in study tips which are able to be applied in many aspects of different sorts of job. Accordingly, just go to study further what we are interested in so that we can well answer questions related to those subjects.

Doctor Hieu bears in mind that “The strongest trees grow on the harshest soils. We, in life, will suffer contrary winds. However, those are chances for us to fight back then accumulate more experiences and deeper root”.

In addition to sharing from Ph.D. Nguyen Hoang Khac Hieu, sponsors also awarded 5 scholarships for students under bad conditions but having willingness to thrive in study.
